▷ Ministry of Environment dispatches Public-Private Green Industry Support Task Force to Qatar and Oman... Expanding the horizons of green industry in the Middle East
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) announced that from September 7 to 13, a public-private team called the Green Industry Support Task Force (led by Jeong Hwan-jin from the Global Green Project Team) will be dispatched to Qatar and Oman.
The dispatch of this Task Force aims to introduce green technologies and industries to the governments of Qatar and Oman, as well as major contractors, along with leading domestic companies in carbon-neutral sectors such as renewable energy and green hydrogen, and in water treatment areas like wastewater treatment and desalination. This initiative seeks to strengthen intergovernmental cooperation and create a foundation for our companies’ entry into the Middle East market.
The Task Force, which includes not only the Ministry of Environment but also the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, K-Water, Korea Water Partnership, Global SAE-A, Doosan Enerbility, Samsung C&T, and GS E&C, is joining forces as a unified team to explore the green industry market in the Middle East.
The Task Force will meet with key government officials from Qatar Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Municipalities, and Qatar Electricity and Water Authority for three days starting from September 8, to discuss cooperation measures for carbon neutrality and green transition between the two countries. In addition, it will hold a green industry technology seminar to introduce green technologies applicable in Qatar and will facilitate export consultations for each company with overseas buyers.
Afterward, the Task Force will move to Muscat, Oman, where it will meet with key government officials from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Hydrom Development Corporation. The Task Force will discuss local market entry strategies for domestic companies and introduce specific green technologies, including green hydrogen, information and communication technology (ICT) for water resource management, and desalination technology. In addition, it plans to request the Omani government’s active interest and support for desalination and green hydrogen projects awarded to Korean companies.
Since last year, the Ministry of Environment has designated the Middle East, including Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, as key regions for overseas expansion strategies, actively carrying out comprehensive support activities for securing orders. To date, they have achieved a total of KRW 21.3 trillion in order achievements in sectors such as green hydrogen, desalination, and water supply and sewage.
Jeong Hwan-jin, Director of the Global Green Project Team, stated, “The Middle East is a strategic hub for overseas expansion into green industries due to the high demand for green transition in the era of decarbonization.” He emphasized, “The government will provide the best possible support to help outstanding domestic green technology companies enter the Middle Eastern market and expand the horizons of South Korea’s green industry.”
