▷ The Ministry of Environment and the Korea National Park Service expand participation opportunities for national park ‘Forest Weddings’ and provide support for wedding photo shoots
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) and the Korea National Park Service (KNPS, Chairman Joo Dae-young) announced that they will significantly expand the ‘Forest Wedding’ program in national parks for couples-to-be and support special wedding photo shoots starting from early March.
The ‘Forest Wedding’ program in national parks, now in its 5th year, has been held a total of 133 times nationwide from 2021 to last year, targeting specific groups such as young people and multicultural communities. The Ministry and the KNPS have decided to expand the target audience this year and provide support for wedding photo shoots at famous locations in national parks, with the aim of allowing more people to enjoy and create memories in the beautiful and pristine national parks.
First, the ceremony locations have been expanded from the original nine ecological exploration centers to include five newly selected beautiful sites* in national parks (a total of 14 locations), broadening the options for couples-to-be.
* Naejangsan Maple Ecological Park, Woraksan Mansuro Nature Observation Trail, Deogyusan Deogyudae Campsite, Palgongsan Gatbawi Native Plant Garden, Gyeryongsan Ecological Exploration Center (operating in the second half of 2025)
In response to feedback regarding the inconvenience of transportation for guests using public transit to reach the ceremony location, free shuttle bus services will be provided between the ceremony site and nearby stations (KTX) and bus terminals. In addition, to accommodate couples-to-be who wish only to take wedding photos, even if they do not hold their wedding ceremony in the national park, 44 beautiful natural locations* in the national parks will be newly introduced as ‘Forest Wedding Photo Spots.’
* Bukhansan Fortress and Dobong Valley, Bigeumdo Heart Beach Observatory, Gyeongju Namsan Samneung Forest, etc.
The access roads to the Forest Wedding Photo Spots are typically restricted to prevent safety accidents and are not open to general visitors’ vehicles. However, if couples make a reservation for a wedding photo shoot in advance, vehicle entry for photography will be permitted under the guidance of KNPS staff.
Information on applications and registrations for the national park ‘Forest Wedding’ and ‘Forest Wedding Photo Spots’ will be made available on the KNPS website (knps.or.kr) starting March 5.
Kim Tae-o, Director General of the Nature Conservation Bureau, stated, “We hope that the national park Forest Wedding and Wedding Photo Spots will establish themselves as a new way to enjoy national parks, and we will continue to expand various programs that allow everyone to experience national parks.”
