Green Consumption Week is held every June to commemorate Environment Day (June 5) and aims to spread the practice of eco-friendly consumption in daily life and enhance the accessibility and awareness of green products.
The theme of this year’s Green Consumption Week is “Green Consumption Starts Today, Goodbye Plastic!” In connection with the theme of World Environment Day, “#BeatPlasticPollution,” it emphasizes reducing plastic use through green consumption in daily life.
This opening event is being held to mark the beginning of the 2025 Green Consumption Week and to promote a culture of green consumption by engaging with retailers and consumers.
[Signing of a Business Agreement with Three Major Online Retailers]
At the event, the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute will sign a business agreement with three major online retailers, namely, Market Kurly, Coupang, and SSG.com. The participating retailers will operate dedicated sections for green products on their platforms and collaborate on joint promotions and consumer engagement campaigns to raise public awareness of green products.
Through this agreement, the Ministry of Environment plans to strengthen the distribution base and make it easier and more accessible for consumers to purchase green products in a reasonable manner.
[Green Consumption Roundtable Discussing Action Plans by Generation]
Following the opening ceremony, the “Green Consumption Promotion Roundtable for Future Generations” will be held, with around 15 participants including elementary students, university students, and environmental entrepreneurs. They will propose the necessity of green consumption and practical action plans from the perspectives of different generations.
Participants will present practical ideas that can be implemented in daily life, and in particular, will propose various policies based on the real-life experiences of adolescents and young adults.
[Green Consumption Week, Together Across the Nation]
During the 2025 Green Consumption Week (June 1-30), a joint campaign will be held nationwide with the participation of over 500 green stores, online retailers, businesses, local governments, and civic groups.
Various consumer participation programs will be offered, including 100-won trial purchases of green products, social media sharing events, and green product purchase challenges at local green stores.
The Ministry of Environment plans to create various touchpoints close to people’s daily lives so that the use of green products can naturally become part of everyday routines and citizens can tangibly experience related policies.
Details about the event, including Green Card Eco Money point accumulation and discount benefits, can be found on the Green Consumption Week website (greenfesta.kr).
Vice Minister of Environment Lee Byounghwa stated, “Green consumption is a practical response to the climate crisis and a responsible choice for future generations, as well as a step toward carbon neutrality in everyday life.” He added, “We will actively support the creation of a green consumption ecosystem led by both the public and private sectors so that it can become the new standard for consumer culture.”
