Following the completion of the first phase of the airport railway (AREX) from Incheon to Gimpo Airport, the second (and final) part of the service (Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station) has been finished and in operation starting from Dec 29th, 2010. The second half of the railway (from Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station) runs for 20.4km and includes 4 stops: Digital Media City Station, Hongik Univ. Station, Gongdeok Station (under construction until 2011), and Seoul Station. Those with international flights can even check baggage at the City Airport located within Seoul Station, and have their luggage sent directly to Incheon International Airport.

With the second half of the AREX line now in place, it only takes 43 minutes to travel between Seoul Station and the Incheon International Airport. Travel time from Yeongjong-do Island (and other Southwestern areas of Incheon) to downtown Seoul will be reduced to 40 ~ 50 minutes. All of the four stops along the second half of the line (Seoul Station ~ Gimpo) are transfer stations, which means that passengers who ride the entire Incheon Airport Line can make a transfer to the Seoul metro line from six of the total 10 stations. Incheon Airport Line passengers may also transfer to the KTX lines from Seoul Station.

An express, non-stop train will run from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport every 30 minutes and the non-express train will run every 6 minutes. AREX fares are 3,700 KRW from Seoul Station to Incheon International Airport and 1,200 KRW from Seoul Station to Gimpo. Non-stop train passengers may use the City Airport Services free of charge; non-express train passengers must pay 3,000 KRW for use. To promote the use of the City Airport among passengers, the Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs will be running a promotional period until next March, offering free luggage delivery service to express train and non-express train passengers alike.
