A research on wintering areas of Baikal Teal ducks conducted by National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) from January 21 to 23 confirmed a total of 370,000 ducks in 5 areas. The research was carried out in 10 areas across the nation by Baikal Teal duck experts.
Migratory Patterns
At Donglim Reservoir, the number of birds has gradually decreased from 200,000 birds on the 21st and 120,000 on the 22nd to 80,000 on the 23rd. Geumgang Lake saw an increase in the number of Baikal teals from 100,000 on the 21st to 220,000 on the 23rd. In the meantime, the number of birds has barely changed in other areas including Yeongam Lake and Sapgyo Lake.
