Korea National Park Service (KNPS) declared to restrict some of the trails in national parks from February 15 to prevent forest fire in the spring season.

 

During the Fire Danger Period, 142 trails (665km) vulnerable to forest fire, including a trail from Nogodan to Jangteomok, Mt. Jiri, out of 560 trails (1,857 km) will be entirely closed while 443 trails (1,193km) that are less vulnerable to fire and can be regularly monitored, will be open to visitors.

 

The Spring Fire Danger Period will be implemented from February 15 to May 15. The start date and end date might vary depending on conditions of each national park such as the amount of snowfall or rainfall.

KNPS asked for visitors to check the restriction period for each national park at the website (www.knps.or.kr ) before going hiking. During the fire danger period, a crackdown on trespassing, smoking and carrying the inflammables will be reinforced to protect nation’s valuable assets, the national parks.

 

KNPS said that restriction on access to mountain trails during the Fire Danger Period held in every spring and fall helps to protect mating and breeding of wild animals.
