Korea National Park Service (KNPS) selected top 10 national parks for family hiking during Lunar New Year’s holidays. The selected places are not too strenuous and safe for family hikes with beautiful scenery of snow-covered mountains.

Deogyusan National Park’s cable car trekking course is a good trail to enjoy the snowy scene in late winter with family. By going up the mountain by cable car to Hyangjeokbong, you can enjoy a snow-clad peak. It takes about 15 minutes to go up to the ending point of cable car and 20 minutes to the top of Deogyusan, Hyangjeokbong, on foot.

Odaesan National Park’s Woljeongsa Fir Trail is suitable to enjoy contemplating in a silent temple. The 1km-long dirt path bordered with 1,000 fir trees is good for woodland walks with rich phytoncide.

Gyeongju Namsan Mountain’s Samleung trail is a good place to experience Korea’s traditional culture. Those who spend the holidays in city can go for a hike in Banghakdong trail of Bukhansan to escape the dreary city life.

Other recommended trails are Sangui Visitor Center~Yongchu Falls Course in Juwangsan National Park; Naesosa Course and Fir Tree Trail in Byeonsanbando National Park; Dalposup-gil~Solmoraet-gil in Taeanhaean National Park; Haneuljae Pass in Woraksan National Park; Gugyedeung Course in Dadohae National Park; and Visitor Center~Byeokryunam in Naejangsan National Park.

“Though the selected courses are mostly gentle for hiking, visitors should wear safety harness for winter hiking,” said an official from KNPS.
