Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) will join hands with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to spread Korea’s excellent environmental policies to the world.
KEITI
signed an MOU to strengthen cooperation on environmental policies with
the Division of Technology, Industry and Economics of UNEP (UNEP DTIE*)
on June 6 at UNEP’s Office in Paris, France.
* UENP DTIE is a division in charge of sustainable production and consumption, energy, climate, chemicals, waste and so forth.
The
signing ceremony was attended by Kim Yong Joo, President of KEITI, Arab
Hoballah, Chief of the Sustainable Consumption and Production in DTIE
and staff. The MOU includes provisions for sustainable consumption and
production, green financing and so forth.
The Korean
government has been implementing excellent policies on green consumption
such as Green Card, Green Stores and Green e-Procurement, and operating
the green financing scheme to offer favorable interest rates to
companies that perform environmentally-friendly management.
The
signing of MOU will help spread Korea’s leading environmental policies
to the international community, thereby expanding opportunities for
Korean companies to make inroads into the global market.
KEITI
signed an MOU on Green Purchase with UNEP in 2013, and excellent
achievements are now leading to another MOU with expanded scope of
cooperation including green financing.
As the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted at the UN General Assembly last
year, governments are expected to improve their environmental policies.
Against this backdrop, KEITI will actively promote Korea’s environmental
policies by strengthening public confidence based on cooperation with
the international organization.
In addition, KEITI has served
as director of UN's 10-year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable
Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP) and strived to expand the
sustainable consumption and production system in Asia-Pacific.
"KEITI
will make utmost efforts to promote Korea's environmental policies and
support domestic companies to advance into the foreign market by closely
working together with UNEP," said Kim Yong Joo, President of KEITI.
