1. Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan will attend the UN General Assembly on the re-election of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on June 21. In the Assembly, the Foreign Minister will deliver a speech to extend his congratulations to Secretary General Ban on his re-election and announce his full support for Ban’ success.

o As the current term of the Secretary General is set to expire at the end of this year, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution (June 17) recommending to the General Assembly that Ban Ki-moon be appointed Secretary General of the United Nations for a second term of office from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2016.

o The UN General Assembly is scheduled to hold the plenary meeting on June 21 to adopt the resolution of the appointment of Ban Ki-moon as the ninth UN Secretary General.

2. The Foreign Minister will meet with Ban in private, and host a reception with diplomatic corps to the UN to congratulate Ban on his re-election.
