Traditional Korean Food and Culture Will be Showcased for Athletes and Visitors 

during 4th Winter Youth Olympic


A pavilion and programme for traditional Korean food and culture will be presented to athletes 

and visitors. At a dining space for Korean food, nutritionally-balanced and healthy Korean food 

will be served for athletes.


Sejong, 16th January 2024 — The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korean 

Food Promotion Institute will open a pavilion for the promotion of Korean food culture and 

operate a programme for experiencing Korean food culture, through collaboration with the 4th 

Winter Youth Olympic Games to be held in the province of Gangwon in the Republic of Korea 

from 19th January to 1st February 2024. 


During the event period, the Ministry will present Korean food culture such as a table of traditional 

Korean refreshments, fermentation of Korean soybean paste and soy sauce, health of Korean temple 

food, etc. The Ministry will also run a programme to provide the visitors with an opportunity to make 

traditional Korean refreshments (e.g. “yakgwa,” a deep-fried honey cookie; “sikhey,” a sweet rice 

beverage; etc.). 


Meanwhile, the Organizing Committee for the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games will prepare a dining 

space for Korean food, called “K-food zone,” where athletes will be served with nutritionally-balanced 

and healthy Korean food such as braised tofu, “tteokguk” (sliced rice cake soup), “samgyeopsal” 

(grilled pork belly slices),” ssam” (veggie wraps), etc. Korean-style fried chicken and “tteokbokki” 

(spicy stir-fried rice cakes) will also be served.
