APEC Economies Discuss the Ways to Expand Cooperation in Agriculture


 

Sejong, 13 August 2025 — As the 10th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Food Security Ministerial Meeting (FSMM) was held from 9 to 10 August in Incheon, the delegation of the Republic of Korea (ROK)—H.E. Vice Minister Kang Hyoung-Seok, H.E. Deputy Minister, and officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA)—met with H.E. Hu Jong-I, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture of Chinese Taipei; H.E. Roger V. Navarro, Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture of the Republic of the Philippines; H.E. Michelle Bekkering, Deputy Under Secretary of the Department of Agriculture of the United States of America; H.E. Walter Thomas Rosser, Assistant Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; and Divisional Manager Phil Houlding of the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand. At the meeting, the delegations of the APEC economies discussed the ways to expand agricultural cooperation. 


The delegations reaffirmed that the APEC economies are important partners in the field of agri-food. They also agreed on the need to exchange information and cooperate in policy with one another against worsening global issues such as climate change, the population ageing, digital transformation, etc. 


The delegation of the Republic of Korea asked for the APEC economies’ cooperation to ensure that exports of Korean agricultural and livestock products can be expanded into their markets.
