- MOIS runs “the 2021 Digital Government Policy Management Online Course“ -
□ The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS, Minister Jeon Hae-cheol) announced that “2021 Korea Digital Government Policy Management Online Course” will begin on September 9 with the participation of 12 high-level officials from eight developing countries.
○ The course will be carried out in two parts, the first part from September 7 to 28 and the second part from November 8 to 26.
○ A total of 12 high-level officials from eight countries will attend the course, including ministerial- and vice ministerial-level officials, the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology of the Republic of Maldives and the Vice Minister of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan, and other high-ranking officials from digital government-related agencies in Costa Rica, Panama, Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia.
□ Launched in 2014 as an annual program, “Digital Government Policy Management Online Course” introduces Korea’s digital government to high-level officials from partner countries.
○ By directly communicating with officials that have the right to make policies rather than just sharing information, the course plays a significant role in helping Korea’s digital government spread to participating countries based on the follow-up cooperation efforts, such as sending delegations, exchanging experts and implementing financial aid and grant programs.
○ This year’s course also includes activities to seek follow-up measures, such as practical training for planning inter-governmental cooperation projects and online meetings with Korean companies.
□ Co-organized by MOIS and the National Information Society Agency, the course was initially held in a face-to-face setting where public officials of partner countries were invited to Korea. However, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been changed to a zero-contact online format.
○ In accordance with the result of the survey on the needs and demands of around 40 developing countries, new educational contents, including e-Certificate and augmented reality services have been added to the course.
○ After reviewing the sectors of interest of the participating countries, the participants will have the opportunity to engage in separate business meetings with Korea’s specialized companies and institutions of interest.
□ Minister Jeon Hae-cheol of the Interior and Safety said, “Amid the prolonged pandemic of COVID-19, many countries are eyeing Korea’s digital government which ranked first and second in the assessments performed by the OECD and the UN respectively.”
○ “To effectively respond to the increasing demand for international cooperation in the digital government sector, we will expand our zero-contact international cooperations by holding various online events, including online training and seminars.”
○ “We will also strive to establish Korea’s standing as the country that leads the world in digital government and proactively find follow-up cooperation efforts to ensure inter-governmental cooperation helps Korean companies enter foreign markets,” he continued.
