Core material production for secondary battery by EP Camtech in
Saemangeum

- Yealry 4,000 tons of electrolyte for secondary battery, creating 100 jobs

- Establishment of supply chain for materials in secondary battery

EP Camtech Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of electrolyte

- a core material in secondary battery, completed a new plant at Saemangeum National Industrial Complex and had an opening ceremony on April 27, according to Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA, Administrator Kim Gyu-Hyeon).

EP Camtech will invest KRW 120 billion ($ 89.8M) in two phases, hiring 100 staff. KRW 70 billion ($53.8M) has been invested on the plant in its initial phase, and it will invest KRW 50 billion ($37.7M) in the final phase by 2026.

EP Camtech will yearly produce 1,500 tons of electrolyte* (LiFSI & LiPO2F2) - core materials for secondary battery - at the plant. They will produce up to 4,000 tons per year in completing their second-stage plant.

* A material added to an electrolyte, one of the four core materials in secondary battery, and serves as a medium for lithium ion to move between cathode and anode in recharging

LiFSI and LiPO2F2, next-generation electrolyte, being produced at the plant in Saemangeum, is a core material that enables to increase battery life, to save recharging time, and to improve performance at a low temperature.

It is also expected to grow related industry sector and to replace import demand under global rocketing increase of EV industry.

EP Camtech focuses on new technology in secondary battery, and has applied for a number of related patents, such as next-generation electrolyte (LiFSI)* , additives, and lithium battery binder.

* LiFSI : improves thermal stability in lithium-ion battery and provides better electrical conductivity performance, cycle span and better function at a low temperature

In particular, LiFSI material technology is used in ESS (Energy Storage System) and large lithium secondary battery for electric vehicle. LiFSI also attracts EV manufacturer’s

attention as a core material in lithium battery which can improve battery performance in recharging speed and function at a low temperature and battery life span.

Kim Gyu-Hyeon, Administrator of SDIA, mentioned that EP Camtech would play an important role in the national and regional economy by creating jobs and export volumes.

Lee Seong-Kwon, CEO of EP Camtech, remarked that they would try to create new jobs for the locality and would try to become a globally recognized company through continuous R&D and investment.
