Need to Prevent Damage to Users of International Marriage Brokerage Services and Protect Their Right to Know
- Results of the 2023 Marriage Brokerage Survey -
(General characteristics) The education and income level of international marriage agency customers have continued to increase since 2014.
- Half of them and 1 out of 4 foreign spouses are college graduates.
- The most popular monthly income range was changed from around KRW 2 million to 4 million or more.
(Blind date setting) “Sufficient time and one-on-one meetings with marriage prospectives” was 56.6%, an increase of 17.3%p compared to 2020.
(Period from local meeting to the wedding) The average length was 9.3 days, continuing the increasing trend compared to 2017 (4.4 days) and 2020 (5.7 days)
(Costs of international marriage brokerage) The average brokerage fee was KRW 14.63 million (median was KRW 13.5 million)
- Providing the detailed status of brokerage fees by country to mitigate excessive cost burden on customers
(System improvement) Including the detailed address and administrative disposition for illegalities, etc. in the marriage brokerage company’s public information disclosure
- Strengthening follow-up management of illegal online advertisements and overhauling educational programs, etc. to focus on the “prevention of damage to customers”
