- Establishing the 4th National Action Plan (2024 - 2027) according to the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the 2024 Enforcement Plan for the 3rd Master Plan for Gender Equality and announcing the measurement results of the National Gender Equality Index in 2022

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family(MOGEF) announced that the 17th Gender Equality Committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, was held and reviewed and reported the 4th National Action Plan (2024 - 2027) according to the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the 3rd Master Plan for Gender Equality (2023-2027)/2023 implementation performance/2024 execution plan (draft), the measurement results of the National Gender Equality Index in 2022, and results of the 2023 implementation inspection of the 3rd National Action Plan (2021 - 2023) according to the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.

The Gender Equality Index has been criticized for not adequately reflecting the changed social situation (sex ratio of the third childbirth, etc.) since the indices determined more than 10 years ago have not been changed.

Accordingly, the Gender Equality Committee set three new gender equality goals (February 2022) and realigned the areas into seven to enable a measurement of new levels of achievement for each goal.

The application of the revised indicators has increased the National Gender Equality Index in 2022 to 65.7 points from 65.5 points year on year.

The gender equality level in the areas of education, health, and gender equality awareness was high, while those in the areas of care (31.4 points) and decision-making (30.7 points) was low.

For education and gender equality awareness, there was a steady increase in the average years of education and the awareness of women's human rights.

The employment area continued an upward trend with an increase in the employment rate and gender equality score related to those women enduring career breaks. The gender equality level in the occupational segregation of labor market also showed an increase.

“We will continue our effort to create a discrimination-free society for everyone by actively reflecting policies such as gender representation improvement and work-life balance in the public and private sectors by establishing and implementing gender equality policies based on the result of the National Gender Quality Index diagnosis,” Vice Minister Shin Young-sook of MOGEF said.
