"Creating a Safe Everyday Life Together through Our Concern"
- National Campaign for the Prevention of Violence Against Women Week 2024 Launched
- Campaign preparations include public participation events and video promotions during the Prevention of Violence Against Women Week (Nov. 25 ~ Dec. 1)
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family(MOGEF) and the Women's Human Rights Institute of Korea (WHRIK) will conduct a national campaign under the theme "Creating a Safe Everyday Life Together through Our Concern" in conjunction with the Prevention of Violence Against Women Week* (November 25 ~ December 1).
* November 25, designated by the UN as the 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women', marks the beginning of the 'Prevention of Violence against Women Week'. Initiated with the 2019 enforcement of the Framework Act on Prevention of Violence against Women, the government conducts commemorative events, awards recognitions, and promotes activities aimed at eradicating violence against women.
Firstly, from November 7 to 26, a challenge titled "Join us in taking 136,600 steps to eradicate deepfake sexual crimes" will be held. Upon reaching 136,600 steps, symbolizing the Women's Emergency Helpline 1366, a drawing will be held to award prizes to 1,366 participants.
Additionally, a special forum and symposium will be organized to review the achievements of policies and projects aimed at preventing violence against women.
Firstly, on November 27 (Wednesday), the MOGEF and the Korean Women Lawyers Association (KWLA) will host a symposium on the "Free Legal Support Project for Victims of Emerging Forms of Violence", discussing project results and future improvements.
On December 10 (Tuesday), a special forum on national policies for preventing violence against women will be held, bringing together women's policy organizations from 16 metropolitan and provincial governments to discuss future strategies for public-private cooperation on a regional scale to prevent violence against women.
Joint campaigns with international organizations and local governments will also be held extensively.
From November 20 to December 10, in collaboration with UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the MOGEF is set to conduct an online campaign* themed "Eradicating deepfake sexual crimes and other forms of violence against women," featuring a message relay and other online initiatives*.
* It is a SNS relay campaign that uses slogan placards from the WHRIK and the UN, encouraging participants to either nominate others or join voluntarily.
All 17 metropolitan and provincial governments across the country will host various local commemorative events such as book concerts, exhibitions, and discussion forums. Detailed information can be found on the official website for the Prevention of Violence Against Women Week(www.stopweek.co.kr).
Additionally, plans are in place to conduct promotions to raise awareness about sexual crimes. Related promotional materials (posters, web banners) can be freely downloaded from the WHRIK’s website (www.stop.or.kr).
Deputy Minister Shin Young-sook of the MOGEF stated, "Sexual crimes using deepfake are threatening the safety of our daily lives, and the need for public attention is greater than ever."
She added, "The MOGEF will continue policy efforts to prevent and protect violence against women, ensuring that all citizens can enjoy a safe everyday life free from violence against women."
