Over 10,000 Supported by ACOSAV in 2024 - Up 14.7% from the Previous Year

- Cases involving image synthesis/editing surged by 227.2%, with teens and individuals in their 20s accounting for 92.6% of victims

- One in four videos removed with support included personal information… New provisions under the Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Support Act supporting the deletion of victims’ personal details take effect on the 17th

The Advocacy Center for Online Sexual Abuse Victims (ACOSAV) reported that it supported 10,305 victims of digital sex crimes last year.

On Thursday the 10th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) and the Women’s Human Rights Institute of Korea (WHRIK) released the 2024 Report on Support for Victims of Digital Sex Crimes, analyzing the victim assistance provided by the Advocacy Center throughout the previous year.


According to the report, the number of victims supported by ACOSAV in 2024 increased by 14.7% compared to the previous year (8,983 in 2023), with approximately 332,000 cases of service provided - including counseling, content removal, and referrals for legal, investigative, and medical support - representing a 20.6% year-on-year increase.

The establishment of a dedicated coordination channel between ACOSAV and law enforcement agencies led to a 110.3% increase in legal and investigative referrals (3,826 cases in 2024, up from 1,819 in 2023). Emergency deletion support for illegal recordings referred by law enforcement also rose, reaching 300,237 cases - a 22.3% increase from the previous year (245,416).

Vice Minister of MOGEF Shin Young-sook stated, “The annual report highlights not only the characteristics of digital sex crimes but also the government’s and support organizations’ efforts last year to respond to deepfake-related offenses.”

She added, “We will continue to take the lead in protecting and supporting victims by proactively developing and implementing response strategies to ensure timely and effective victim support.”
