Call 1366 Anytime, Anywhere for Counseling on Digital Sexual Abuse and Support at Your Nearest ACOSAV
- Central and Regional ACOSAVs to Officially Launch on Thursday, the 17th
- Hotline to Be Unified Under 1366, Providing 24/7 Nationwide Counseling Support Year-Round
Starting Thursday the 17th, all digital sexual abuse victim support institutions nationwide will be rebranded and operated as Advocacy Centers for Online Sexual Abuse Victims (ACOSAVs). The counseling hotline will be consolidated under 1366, enabling faster support for victims.
* The Women’s Emergency Hotline 1366 operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offering emergency and crisis counseling as well as temporary shelter services through 19 centers nationwide.
According to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) and the Women’s Human Rights Institute of Korea (WHRIK), the amended Sexual Violence Prevention and Victims Protection Act will take effect on the 17th, leading to the official launch of the Central and Regional ACOSAVs.
* The amendment expands the responsibility for suporting deletion illegal content, such as illicit recordings, from solely the state to both the central and local governments (Article 7-3), and provides a legal basis for establishing the Central and Regional ACOSAVs (Article 7-4), among other changes.
To address the issue of inconsistent and difficult-to-remember contact numbers across support institutions, all victim counseling calls will now be streamlined through a single, easy-to-access number. Going forward, anyone can dial 1366—no area code required—at any time, and be connected to an ACOSAV.
Meanwhile, a signboard unveiling ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday the 17th at the WHRIK to commemorate the expansion and official launch of the Central ACOSAV.
Shin Young-sook, Vice Minister of MOGEF, stated, “With the enforcement of the amended Sexual Violence Prevention and Victims Protection Act, the launch of the Central and Regional ACOSAVs, and 24/7 availability of the 1366 hotline, we will be better positioned to respond within the golden window of time to prevent the spread of abusive content and deliver swift support to victims.”
She added, “We will continue to provide support to ensure that the Central and Regional ACOSAVs establish themselves as the lead institutions for the protection and support of digital sexual abuse victims.”
