Korean-Vietnamese Multicultural Youth to Grow with Pride as Koreans and Thrive as Global Talents

- Summer cultural and career experience camp (July 14–17) for children of multicultural families who have returned to Vietnam.

- Opportunities for diverse experiences, including visits to Korea’s cultural heritage sites, science museums, media content centers, universities, and national institutions.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) will host a Korean Cultural and Career Experience Camp from Monday, July 14 to Thursday, July 17 in the Seoul metropolitan area, inviting children of marriage immigrants who returned to Vietnam after divorce or bereavement.

- The Korean Cultural and Career Experience Camp (hereinafter “the Camp”) was launched last year to help multicultural youth living abroad better understand Korea and foster pride in their heritage through diverse hands-on experiences—supporting their growth into globally minded individuals.

- This year’s camp will host 19 participants, including 9 Korean-Vietnamese Multicultural youth*, along with university student volunteers and camp leaders. Participants were selected in cooperation with the Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs in Vietnam.

* 3 elementary school students, 6 middle and high school students (3 with Korean nationality, 6 with dual citizenship)

During the camp, participants will visit Korean cultural heritage sites and museums, experience traditional folk games, and deepen their understanding of Korean culture. They will also tour universities, job experience centers, and national institutions, giving them the opportunity to explore career paths and shape their future aspirations.

Since 2019, MOGEF has been supporting returned marriage immigrants and their children—mainly in Hai Phong, Vietnam—by providing assistance with housing, education, and legal counseling to help them resettle in their home country after returning due to divorce or bereavement.

- This year, support has expanded to Hai Duong in northern Vietnam through partnerships with local private-sector infrastructure. Services include support for self-help groups for returned immigrants, legal consultations, and, beginning in the second half of the year, job and entrepreneurship training for those seeking economic self-reliance.

- In addition, career counseling is being provided to help the children of returned immigrants adjust to local schools. For those interested in applying to Korean universities, special sessions will be held to explain the Korean college admissions process and related systems.

Choi Sung-ji, Director General of Youth and Family Policy at MOGEF, stated, “We hope that the Korean Cultural and Career Experience Camp—now in its second year—will serve as a meaningful opportunity for Korean-Vietnamese youth living in Vietnam to connect with their heritage and begin mapping out their futures.”

- She added, “MOGEF will continue to provide strong support so that multicultural youth can nurture their dreams and potential and grow into healthy, globally capable individuals.”
