Smart Fishery Product Cluster in Saemangeum
- SDIA and Gunsan City signed an investment MOU to establish fishery
product cluster
Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA,
Administrator Kim Kyung-ahn) and Gunsan City (Mayor Kang
Im-Joon) signed an MOU to establish Smart Fishery Product
Cluster on November 21.
The cluster will be established by 2025. Gunsan City is going
to maximize the value of fishery products with high-quality
seasoned Gim (laver), one of Jeonbuk’s main fishery products
at overseas markets, through the cluster.
KRW 54.6 billion (KRW 26.8 billion national fund included) will
be invested on the cluster and R&D center. Seasoned laver and
meal kits will be produced there.
The cluster will be established through two phases by
attracting seafood processing entrepreneurs first, then will
secure domestic and international distribution network to reach

the sales amount of KRW500 billion by 2030.
Kim Kyung-ahn, Administrator of SDIA, said, “We hope that
Smart Fishery Product Cluster will be priming water for a
global food hub in Saemangeum.”
Mayor Knag Im-joon of Gunsan City said, “We will develop
various high-quality products at Smart Fishery Product Cluster,
which will be a leap in the fishery industry in Jeollabuk-do, as
well in Gunsan City. We hope that it will make a success
model in Korea.”
