- Providing education tailored to special school students from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) and Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM; CEO Kang Yong-seok) announced that they would operate a marine environment mobile classroom for students in special schools from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23 in celebration of Ocean Day (May 31).

The marine environment mobile classroom* is a program that provides experiential marine environment education to students by having a large vehicle equipped with educational content on climate change and marine protected species visit elementary schools in four regions (capital region, East Sea region, West Sea region, and South Sea region).

* Commenced in 2016, the program has provided education to 109,656 children in 1,335 schools.

While the program has been operated mainly in general kindergartens and elementary schools, this special event was created to provide marine environment education in celebration of Ocean Day for special school students who have few opportunities to participate in outside programs.

In particular, the program is expected to provide an educational effect and a unique experience through the structure to enable the students to learn environmental issues such as marine debris and marine protected species in a fun, easy way through teaching materials and experiential activities tailored to them.
