A groundbreaking collaboration between aviation security authorities makes travel between South Korea and the United States quick and seamless. The implementation of an advanced baggage screening program, International Remote Baggage Screening (IRBS) which became operational beginning August 13th, allows passengers departing from the Republic of Korea’s Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to experience faster entry into the United States and quicker connections for flights to domestic and international destinations.
This pioneering initiative is the result of close cooperation among the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), Korean Air, and Delta Air Lines. Under this program, X-ray images of checked baggage for Atlanta-bound passengers from Incheon are transmitted in advance to U.S. authorities. This allows U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to review checked baggage images remotely while the aircraft is still in flight.
