The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister Bae Kyunghoon) announced that it will host the “International Streaming Festival 2025” (hereinafter, the Festival)—Korea’s only international event dedicated to the streaming industry (OTT and FAST)—from Friday, August 22 to Monday, August 25, 2025, at Paradise Hotel Busan and the Busan Cinema Center.
Now in its third year, the Festival is co-hosted with Busan Metropolitan City under the theme “Streaming What’s Next.” It is designed to support global business exchange and cooperation for Korean OTT, FAST, content, and AI-media companies—creating opportunities for overseas expansion and investment.
This year’s four-day Festival will comprehensively cover the latest trends across OTT, content, and technology—with a focus on AI, FAST, and advertising. To help domestic companies secure investment, the Festival will expand participation by domestic and international investors and launch a new business exchange to link K-FAST channels with overseas advertisers. Audience-facing programs will also be strengthened with Media & Brand Day—OTT-specific public showcases—and a new OST Concert.
The Festival will feature: ① Global OTT Awards, which recognize outstanding OTT services, content, media technologies, and artists worldwide; ② Investment Pitch Showcase to connect domestic content pitches and AI/media-tech companies with domestic and overseas investors; and ③ International Streaming Summit, sharing domestic and international OTT/FAST industry trends and strategies. In addition, ④ K-FAST Advertising Business Meet-up, ⑤ Media & Brand Day, ⑥ Series Screenings, and ⑦ OST Concert will be held.
① Global OTT Awards will take place on Sunday, August 24, from 7:00 p.m. at the Outdoor Theater of Busan Cinema Center. Nominees—including domestic and international OTT platforms, content, artists (actors), and creators (directors/writers)—will walk the red carpet, after which the ceremony will present awards in 19 categories (14 competition, 5 invitation), honoring more than 20 titles.
For the 14 competition categories—including Best OTT Original, Best Visual Effects, Best Creative, Best Director, and Best Writer—145 titles from 24 OTT providers worldwide were submitted: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ (U.S.); Viu (Hong Kong); iQIYI, Youku (China); Rakuten TV, U-NEXT (Japan); TVING, wavve, Coupang Play (Korea), among others. Category-by-category nominees were announced on July 21.
Highlights among the nominees include a strong slate of recent Korean hits:
– Netflix’s ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ (starring IU; Director Kim Won-seok; Writer Im Sang-chun), ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on call’ (starring Ju Ji-hoon, Chu Young-woo), ‘Heavenly Ever After’ (OST by Lim Young-woong), and ‘Kian’s Bizarre B&B’;
– TVING’s ‘Our Unwritten Seoul’ (starring Park Bo-young; Writer Lee Kang), ‘WORLD OF STREET WOMAN FIGHTER’;
– Disney+’s ‘Hyper Knife’ (starring Park Eun-bin), ‘Light Shop’ (Writer Kangfull), ‘Nine Puzzles’;
– Prime Video’s ‘GOOD BOY’ (starring Park Bo-gum; Director Sim Nayeon), and more.
For the five invitation categories, awards will be presented for: the New Technology Award (for platforms delivering innovative ICT-based services); the Creative Beyond Border Award (for content showcasing new genres and experiments in OTT); and the People’s Choice Award (male and female, selected by global audience voting). Winners for both the five invitation and the 14 competition categories will be announced at the Global OTT Awards on August 24 (Sun).
② The Investment Pitch Showcase will be held over two days—Saturday–Sunday, August 23–24—in the Grand Ballroom, Paradise Hotel Busan. On August 23 (Sat), investor-relations (IR) sessions will feature AI-based OTT/media-tech companies; on August 24 (Sun), domestic broadcasters and studios will pitch outstanding content projects. The Showcase will facilitate co-production partnerships and investment deals—including technology investments—with domestic and overseas investors and buyers.
③ The International Streaming Summit will be held on Friday, August 22, in the Grand Ballroom, Paradise Hotel Busan. The morning keynote by OMDIA, a global market research and analysis firm, will present global streaming industry trends and outlook.
The afternoon program includes a presentation by Statista on how to harness AI to boost content discovery, personalization, and global reach.” Panel discussions will follow on topics spanning platforms, content, AI, and business models:
– [OTT Session] OTT Business and Glocal (Global+Local) Collaboration (Starzplay (Middle East), TVING, ESTsoft, etc.);
– [FAST Session] Growth and Monetization Strategies for the FAST Ecosystem (Tubi (U.S.), Samsung Electronics, LG Channels US & Canada, SM Entertainment, Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)).
A roundtable will examine strategies for the global expansion of K-OTT and K-FAST and explore opportunities for technical cooperation.
Next, the ④ K-FAST Advertising Business Meet-up will connect six consortia and 20 K-FAST channels—selected under the AI redubbing–focused K-FAST expansion project—with 60 member companies of the Global K-FAST Alliance, domestic exporters, and advertising agencies to expand overseas advertising on K-FAST channels and forge partnerships.
New this year, ⑤ Media & Brand Day will feature Netflix and TVING showcasing distinctive technologies and content.
– Netflix will introduce its audio description technology with a “K-POP Demon Hunters” content demonstration at 8:00 p.m., August 22 (Fri), at the Outdoor Theater of Busan Cinema Center.
– TVING will run a concept booth for its new unscripted series “Great Escape: The Story” from August 22 (Fri) to 23 (Sat), and screen “Great Escape: The Story” and the firefighter documentary “Life Line” from August 24 (Sun) to 25 (Mon) in Cinema 1 of the Busan Cinema Center.
⑥ Series Screenings will run for four days, August 22 (Fri) – 25 (Mon), in Cinema 1 and other venues at the Busan Cinema Center, featuring five nominated works from this year’s Global OTT Awards—such as ‘Our Unwritten Seoul’ (Korea), ‘The First Frost’ (China), and ‘Timeless Love Letters for My Classmates’ (Japan)—along with Q&A sessions with directors, actors, and other creators.
Bringing the Festival to a close, ⑦ the OST Concert will take place at 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 25, at the Outdoor Theater of Busan Cinema Center, featuring Hong Isaac (performing OST tracks from ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ and ‘Our Unwritten Seoul’), Nerd Connection (performing songs from “Motel California”), Joong Siki Band, Eve, Elaine, and more.
