Luge athletes light up Pyeongchang

Team Germany, the winners of the Viessmann Luge Team Relay World Cup, jumps for joy on the podium at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province, on Feb. 19.
The crowd lifted its hands into the air at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province, for the last race of the Viessmann Luge World Cup, a test event for next year’s PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The fans went wild as 15 national teams crossed the finish line and hit the touchpad hanging over the track.
The German team, made up of Natalie Geisenberger, Andi Langenhan, Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken, proved Germany's dominance in luge. It recorded a total time of 2:29.119, a 0.431-second lead over Team Austria. Latvia finished third.

Andi Langenhan, a German athlete who also won the silver medal in the men’s single event, said, “It was a real lottery,” and said that getting a good result on the new track at the Alpensia Sliding Center was “super tough.”
He also said that, “It also gives me confidence ahead of the Olympic season,” and said that he was “delighted” with the results.

Team Korea, made up of Aileen Frisch, Lim Namkyu, Park Jinyong and Cho Jung Myung, recorded a total time of 2:32.282 and came in 11th place.
