Senior Secretary to the President for Public Communication Yoon Young-chan Briefs Media on Cooperation on Pending Diplomatic Issues Between Korea and the United States

Director of National Security Chung Eui-yong, who is currently visiting the United States, met with White House National Security Advisor John Bolton at 3 o’clock on April 24 (local time) for approximately for an hour to exchange ideas.

Director Chung and Advisor Bolton discussed preparations for the inter-Korean summit to be held in two days and, particularly, ways for Korea and the United States to work closely together to achieve the goal of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. They also consulted each other on possible developments following the inter-Korean summit.

They reached an agreement that President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump would hold a telephone conversation immediately after the inter-Korean summit to share its outcome.

Director Chung and Advisor Bolton also discussed the possibility of meeting between the two Presidents prior to the North Korea-United States summit.

After the meeting, Director Chung said that his meeting with Advisor Bolton was very practical and useful and that they agreed to closely consult with each other for the success of the North Korea-U.S. summit following the inter-Korean summit.
