Inter-Korean Hotline Opens

The historic connection of a direct telephone line between the leaders of the two Koreas has been successfully completed. A test call between Cheong Wa Dae and the State Affairs Commission of North Korea took place at around 3:41 this afternoon. Personal Secretary to the President Song Inbae made a call to Pyeongyang, and an official at the State Affairs Commission answered the phone. The connection was seamless, and the call quality was very good. It was like calling next door.

The reciprocal test call lasted four minutes and 19 seconds from 3:41 pm. As the summit is just a week away, we will make best efforts for the onsite inspection. There will be a meeting among security-related organizations on the site of the summit at Panmunjeom tomorrow afternoon.

Other onsite meetings at Panmunjeom next week include the last Inter-Korean Summit Preparation Committee meeting and the meeting of subcommittee heads.

When the Situation Room is set up at Panmunjeom on April 24, it will be in charge of and monitor all preparation-related matters, which will be carried out in a calm and meticulous manner.
