Bulgaria highly appreciates the positive dialogue between Korea and North Korea and the efforts made toward rapprochement and consolidation of peace on the Korean Peninsula, to which cause both countries have contributed.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev attended a luncheon for diplomatic representatives in Bulgaria from Asian countries, organized by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria Shin Boo-nam, held at the Korean Embassy in Sofia on March 12. “We just took a picture together with the ambassadors of Korea and of North Korea, which I find historically symbolic," said the president, adding that the international community should support dialogue for the development of friendly relations between the two Koreas.

President Radev congratulated the institutions and people of Korea on the excellent organization of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and their success in using this "strong political tool" to encourage dialogue between Korea and North Korea.

President Radev also highly appreciated the results of the visit to Bulgaria of Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon last October. "We had many fruitful conversations about the development of the bilateral partnership across several areas -- industry, investments, trade, IT, automotive industries, tourism, science, education -- and we should work on realizing this potential," said President Radev. The Bulgarian head of state also renewed his invitation to President Moon Jae-in to visit Bulgaria.

This is the first time the North Korean Ambassador has visited the Korean Embassy in Bulgaria. In the visitors' note, Cha Kon Il wrote, "We are one nation. We hope to work together to write a new history of North-South relations and the reunification of our country."

The ambassadors of 13 Middle Eastern and Asia-Pacific countries attended the meeting.
