John Lennon once said, “All we are saying is give peace a chance.” When it comes to peace between the two Koreas, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games were a great first-step that brought the two Koreas together. I remember when I was watching the Winter Games Opening Ceremony live on Facebook that I was so excited to see a united Korean team, South and North, marching together. Ever since my childhood, as far as I remember, that was the first moment that I heard when both the Koreas would be marching under same flag. I didn’t want to miss it.

I remember I was clapping when I saw the united team march and hold the unification flag. It was then that I knew that history was in the making, and that peace, not war, wasn't that far away.

During the Winter Olympics, I was happy to see that both the teams from South Korea and North Korea were cheering for the joint team. Although the joint team couldn’t win many events, they won the hearts of millions of people all around the world.

Now that the Winter Olympics have successfully concluded, we shouldn’t slow down our efforts toward peace. Rather, the passion to bring the two Koreas together and to spread peace should gain even more momentum. When I read on Korea.net that a K-pop band from the South would go to Pyeongyang to perform, I almost started to cry with happiness. How beautiful it would be to go from one country to another, where for the past couple of decades you were not permitted to go. Being Pakistani, I know how it feels, as, unfortunately, Pakistan and India go through similar problems. So I'm so glad that politicians on both sides are trying their best to resolve the issues and to bring peace.

Again, I learned that Pyeongyang has agreed to hold talks with Korea and has agreed to send a high ranking delegation to the Peace House in Panmunjeom. This news was again spread everywhere as people were so happy that the efforts of President Moon Jae-in's government were being rewarded. No doubt, it wouldn’t have been possible without the endeavors and determination of the Moon administration. Being Pakistani, I'm so glad that both Koreas are coming and joining hands to bring peace to the region, and I am hopeful and look forward to seeing the best of positive outcomes for the upcoming talks for Koreans everywhere.

With lots of love and best wishes from Pakistan~
