LG Electronics unveils the world's very first 65-inch UHD OLED TV, which shows vivid and bright images with its 33 million pixels.
“Bigger, clearer and slimmer.”
This is the unchanging wish of television makers. The TV industry has been making ever-newer technology developments, ranging from PDP (plasma display panels), to LCD (liquid crystal displays) and LED (light emitting diodes), evolving in all areas, including clarity, resolution and size.
Recently in Korea, the world's very first UHD (ultra high definition) OLED (organic light emitting diode) TV was made, highlighting new technology that has improved upon existing HD technology.
The world’s first-ever UHD OLED TV, made by LG Electronics, displays a crystal clear picture with its 33 million pixels. It has a 65-inch, slightly curved screen, but is still slim compared to its size and can be hung on a wall. It is equipped with a web-based operating system so that people can use its smart TV functions in an easy and convenient manner.

Known as the next-generation of TV technology, OLEDs display higher clarity and a wider range of contrast, and have bigger viewing angles, unlike existing LCD TVs. Each of the 33 million pixels on a UHD OLED TV screen has four colors -- red, blue, green and white -- which show a clearer picture. UHD OLED TVs have four times as much color clarity as existing UHD LCD TVs.
Backed by an unlimited range of contrast, UHD OLED TVs show a detailed, wider range of colors, from dark to light. In particular, they can express a perfectly black screen. Thanks to their fast transmission speeds, UHD OLED TVs can display a natural image without creating an afterimage. There is no distortion in the color or clarity at any angle due to the characteristics of the OLEDs.
“In terms of clarity, TVs need to show objects in the most natural way possible. UHD OLED TVs are the only ones that have all four requirements: UHD resolution, unlimited contrast, fast transmission speeds and excellent clarity with no distortion from any angle,” said Ha Hyun-hwoi, president of LG Electronics' home entertainment division, during a promotional event in Yeouido, Seoul, last August.
