Kia Motors' subcompact model, the Pride, is enjoying great popularity in Russia.

The Pride, sold as the Rio in the Russian market, became the bestselling car in the country for the first time in November. This is also the first time ever for an imported brand to be a bestseller in the Russian market.

According to Kia on December 10 that the Pride sold 10,823 units in November, followed by Lada's Granta with 10,520 units, and then with the Hyundai Solaris in third place with 10,134 cars.

Kia introduced the new Pride as a strategic model in 2011 and it is being produced at its sister company Hyundai Motor's factory in St. Petersburg, Russia. The model was designed to withstand the cold, in light of the large amount of snow in Russia. Drivers can start the engine even at minus 35 degrees Celsius and the car is equipped with convenient features including antifreeze wipers and a sudden brake warning system, adding to its popularity.

In terms of monthly sales by company, Kia came in second by selling 20,678 cars in Russia in November, an increase of 19 percent over the same period last year. Lada sold the most cars that month, delivering 30,402 vehicles. France's Renault was in third place with 19,170 cars and Hyundai Motor was next at 16,154 units.

The Pride is equipped with convenient features such as antifreeze wipers to help withstand Russia's winter.
