Seoul Metro, which runs the Seoul Metropolitan Subway in and around the capital, will transfer its operating technology to Indonesia.
The city-owned corporation on July 1 said it will launch a consulting project on the operation of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.
A consortium of Samsung C&T and Dohwa Engineering will promote the project. Seoul Metro said it will create a safe and convenient environment for mass transit in Jakarta and build a sustainable public transportation system there to contribute to public welfare and solve transportation problems.
The project is the corporation's second in Indonesia. In April, Seoul Metro completed the Jakarta Light-rail Capacity Building Project that was commissioned in 2020 by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
In addition, the company plans to conduct overseas projects such as preliminary consulting to prepare for the opening of the Sydney Metro's West and Western Sydney Airport lines in Australia; operation and maintenance consulting for Line 4 of the Manila Metro Rail Transit System in the Philippines; and consulting on the purchase of passenger cars for Bangladesh Railway.
In the second half of the year, Seoul Metro will take part in consulting projects for modernizing rail signals in Bangladesh and join the bid to manage the construction of the Manila Metro.
"We plan to use this opportunity to actively share our know-how in urban rail operations to help build a stable urban rail system in Jakarta, Indonesia," Seoul Metro CEO Baek Ho said. "We will continue spreading to the world the excellence of the Seoul subway by showcasing our superior operating technology."
