The KBS Symphony Orchestra will bring to classical music lovers the quintessence of two great Russian composers: Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky.
The concerts will be held, first, at the Cheonan Arts Center, in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do (South Chungcheong Province), and then at the Seoul Arts Center, in Seoul, on June 26 and 27, respectively.

Yablonsky is one of the most celebrated conductors on the European scene. At the age of 26, he was a renowned cellist. The switch to conducting happened when the young cellist attended a festival in Italy. As the hour was drawing near, the conductor didn’t arrive. So Yablonsky stood in for the no-show, conducted the orchestra and at that point he started his career as a conductor.
Since then, he has conducted numerous prestigious orchestras across Europe, including the National Orchestra of Belgium and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the U.K. He has also recorded more than 70 albums.
Since 2012, he has served as the principal guest conductor with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra.
Accompanying the Russian conductor and the orchestra will be Slovakian pianist Marián Lapšanský.
In 1970, he stood out when he won the highly competitive Smetana International Piano Competition. In 1972, the pianist won another coveted competition, the International Mozart Piano Competition. Now he serves as the leader of the Slovak Philharmonic.
The two masters are now ready to join the KBS Symphony Orchestra on stage. They will bring to life Mussorgsky’s symphonic poem “Night on Bald Mountain” and then perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G major, Op. 44, during the first half of the concerts. The second half will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 29, a piece regarded as the Russian composer’s only major symphony.
