On September 9, three up-and-coming Korean fashion designers rocked the New York runway as part of 2014's New York Fashion Week .

The “Concept Korea Spring/Summer 2015” fashion show took the three designers and put them under the spotlight at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, as their collections were on display and worn by catwalk models in front of a rapt audience.

The three designers, Lee Ju-young, Lee Seung-hee and Ko Tae-young, were lucky enough to have been selected to take advantage in the fashion show as a test bed before advancing into the New York fashion scene. They showcased approximately 20 designs of their own.

First, Lee Ju-young, owner of the fashion brand Resurrection, revealed her new collection of simple, casual menswear for spring and summer, all inspired by the theme “casual and masculine.”

Ko Tae-young, of the Beyond Closet brand of menswear, showed off a collection of school uniform-themed casual clothes designed especially for young men in their teens and twenties. In particular, Zico, a member of the pop group Block B, appeared as music director for Ko’s show, selecting and mixing songs, most of them from Block B’s repertoire.

Lee Seung-hee, meanwhile, attended the Concept Korea show for the first time. In the show, Lee introduced to the fashion trendsetters of New York her designs from her own brand Leyii, a line of clothing that maximizes the feminine silhouette.

“The Concept Korea shows definitely serve as a gateway to advancing into the New York fashion market,” said celebrated fashion designer Lie Sang-bong after the show.

“Nowadays, young Korean designers are something of a fresh gust of wind blowing across the New York fashion industry,” said Nicole Fischelis, Vice President and Fashion Director at the Macy’s group.

Marking its tenth run this year, Concept Korea fashion shows have been jointly hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency since 2010.

The show aims to help up-and-coming Korean fashion designers to get out of the domestic market and onto the global one. It is held twice every year, in February and September.
