Baritone Kim Seoung-chuel, born on Jeju Island off the southernmost part of the peninsula, will be under the spotlight at the Seongnam Arts Center in Gyeonggi-do (Gyeonggi Province) on February 6.
Accompanying him will be some of the nation’s best musicians, including sopranos Kim Eun-joo and Oh Mi-seon, and tenor Na Seung-seo. For the upcoming concert, the musicians have prepared a repertoire that includes many familiar opera arias.
They will be accompanied by the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Kim Deok-ki, who currently teaches conducting at Seoul National University.
This New Year’s concert will proceed in two acts. Kim will kick off the show with the opener “Brindisi” from the opera “La traviata,” together with sopranos Kim Eun-joo and Oh Mi-seon and tenor Na Seung-seo.
The baritone will then join tenor Na Seung-seo again on “O Mimi, tu piu non torni” from the opera “La Boheme.” The duo will continue with two more songs alongside soprano Kim Eun-joo: “Tace la notte!” and “Di geloso amor sprezzato” from the opera “Il trovatore.”
In the second act, baritone Kim will present the solo “Toreador” from “Carmen.” The show will wrap up with the whole cast on stage to sing “Un di, se ben rammentomi... Bella figlia dell'amore...” from the opera “Rigoletto.”
