French violinist Laurent Korcia.
Laurent Korcia is a violinist who represents the classical music world in France. The musician has recently touched down in Korea to play for his domestic fans here.
He will soon present two special concerts, first at the Bexco convention center in Busan on February 6, and then at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul on February 8. This is the fourth time for him to play in Korea. His first encounter with the enthusiastic classical music lovers of Korea took place back in 2010.
“After I held my first concert here in 2010, I got to love this country,” said Korcia. “I was sort of strongly impressed by how highly self-confident and high-spirited they really are.”
The French daily Le Monde lauded him as a present-day virtuoso when it said, “The freedom, the presence and the imagination of Laurent Korcia’s playing is what only a handful of violinists -- living or dead -- have. Korcia has it all: the majestic style, the technique, the charisma, the ideas and the charm.”
Accompanying the violinist will be pianist Byun Aeyoung, who has partnered with him for more than six months in a series of previous concerts, and the world-acclaimed accordionist Elodie Soulard. They will play many classical music pieces, including works from Brahms, Bartok and Saint Saens.
Hyolyn, a member of the pop group Sistar, will sing at Laurent Korcia’s concerts in Busan and Seoul on February 6 and 8.
The highlight is a collaboration with Hyolyn, a member of the pop group Sistar. The pop star will sing soundtrack hits from both live-action and animated movies, in tune with Korcia’s violin. The songs include “Someday My Prince Will Come,” from Walt Disney’s movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” from the movie “The Wizard of Oz.”
“Hyolyn and I prepared this repertoire for these shows that consists mainly of movie songs from the golden age of Hollywood. This collaboration will definitely work to bridge two different musical worlds,” Korcia said.
