Do the words "the Arab region" mean the same thing as "the Middle East"? Is there any difference between “Islam” and “Arab”?
Answers to these questions can be found at the eighth Arab Cultural Festival that will take place from May 28 to June 23 in both Seoul and Busan.
This annual event is held in order to boost understanding about Arabic culture and countries. The organizer of the festival, the Korea-Arab Society, is an association between the Korean government and 22 Arabic governments and related organizations from across the region.
The festival is composed of three parts: the Arab Film Festival, a series of special lectures and finally a youth exchange program between Korea and Saudi Arabia.
The Arab Film Festival marks its fourth anniversary this year. It will be held on the theme “Journey Through the Arab” from June 4 to 10 at the Arthouse MOMO theater at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and at the Busan Cinema Center in Busan. It will feature ten movies from 22 Arabic countries. The opening movie is “From A to B,” directed by Ali F. Mustafa. The opening ceremony will be held at the Arthouse MOMO theater on June 4 where director Ali F. Mustafa and Nadine Naous, the director of "Home Sweet Home,” one of the ten screened films, will attend.
The film festival will include sideline events, such as meetings with film directors, experts in Arabic arts, and Arabic calligraphy events.
