A festival has returned to Seoul to encourage bilateral cultural exchanges between Korea and Cuba.

The 2015 Cuban Culture and Arts Festival will take place from June 26 to July 5. The theme of the festival this year is, "Young Cuba Meets Korea." The festival consists of two different events: the Nuevo Cuban Jazz Concert and the Contemporary Cuban Cinema Festival.

The Nuevo Cuban Jazz Concert will take place in the Samsung Hall at Ewha Womans University on June 26 and 27. Albertico Lescay and Formas, a leading modern jazz band in Cuba, will perform along with Ana Meneses, a renowned Cuban dancer, and Yoerlis Brunet, a member of the Cuban Contemporary Dance (DCC) company. The band will present a fusion of modern jazz rhythms and traditional Cuban sounds, while the two dancers will show off a passionate performance that combines flamenco-based traditional moves and contemporary moves. Later, the Zion Luz Project, a Korean Latin music group, and JK and Lucy, a dance team, will join the Cuban artists on the stage.

The Contemporary Cuban Cinema Festival, Korea's first Cuban film festival, will take place at the Korean Film Archive in Sangam-dong, western Seoul. It will present nine films of different genres produced since 2011.

The opening film, "The Wall of Words" (2014) ("La pared de las palabras") is a work by Fernando Perez Valdes, one of many prominent Cuban directors. The film delivers a message about communicating by depicting brothers who have disabilities. In addition, "Conduct" (2014) ("Conducta"), which caught viewers' attention at the Busan International Film Festival in 2014, and "The Moon in the Garden" ("La Luna En El Jardin"), an animated short film, will also be shown at the festival.

As part of the festival, the Korea-Cuba Film Seminar will be held on June 27 to discuss bilateral exchanges between the Korean and Cuban film industries. The next day, Ernesto Daranas, director of the film "Conduct," will meet and talk with the audience.

All programs at the 2015 Cuban Culture and Arts Festival are free of charge. For more information, please call 070-4870-1932 or visit the festival's Korean-only homepage (www.cubafestival.kr).
