Two fashion designers have fascinated fashion leaders in New York City.
On July 14, Jang Hyung-chul of the menswear brand Ordinary People and Kang Dong-jun of DBYD showcased their collection of designs at the "Concept Korea Spring & Summer 2016" fashion show in Manhattan.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency co-hosted the fashion show as part of events held throughout New York Fashion Week, a week-long fashion festival that runs from July 13 to 15.
During the show, the two designers presented to New Yorkers a series of clothes for men, designs which they believe will boom across the fashion landscape next year.
The DBYD designer put on the catwalk a set of his creations inspired by an imaginary boy who's left alone at home and indulges in flights of fancy.
“Unlike Paris, Milan, London or other fashion hubs around the world, New York fashion focuses on commerciality and popularity,” said Kang. “To live up to New Yorkers’ needs, I tried to design an urban street casual look that anyone can put on with comfort and which also can sell well in the market.”

The designer at Ordinary People, Jang Hyung-chul, presented designs based on classic sensibilities and sporty looks. “Unlike clothes that are too focused on artistry, my designs are just street fashion styles that attract ‘ordinary people,’” Jang said.
Simon Collins, a fashion consultant at the International Management Group (IMG), a global fashion company, said that, “The two brands have their own different characters with distinguished creativity. I believe that the brands are ready to take a step forward on the New York scene, taking advantage of this fashion show.” Collins was one of the judges on the panel at the fashion show.

This year’s New York Fashion Week features two "Concept Korea" events, the first one for menswear and the second one for women’s clothing, a first in the history of Fashion Week.
The next round of the New York Fashion Week will begin on September 10 and run through to the 17. During that week, two womenswear designers -- Lee Suk-tae of KALL.E.SUKTAE and Lee Ji-yeon of Jarret -- will introduce their collections on the runway.
