A series of music festivals will be held during the summer to blow away the summer heat.

The festivals are scheduled one after the other in July and August and a range of top musicians from around the world will appear on stage, raising a lot of public interest in the events.

The sixth Ansan M Valley Rock Festival will kick off the festival season at a park on Daebudo Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do Province. Over 80 groups from Korea and abroad will perform at the festival scheduled from July 24 to 26.

Rock and heavy metal musicians scheduled to perform at the festival include: Noel Gallagher, the former vocalist and guitarist of British band Oasis; Foo Fighters, a U.S. rock group founded by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl; The Chemical Brothers, which has rewritten the history of electronica; and, Motörhead, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Korean rock and dance groups including Daybreak, Jang Kiha and The Faces and Sultan of the Disco, the first Korean band that was invited to the Glastonbury Festival in Britain, will add fun to the festival.

The Ansan M Valley Rock Festival has garnered much praise from the media. In 2012, it was chosen as one of the must-see 50 Music Festivals for the Summer by CNN GO, the travel section of the cable news broadcaster, along with the Glastonbury Festival and the Fuji Rock Festival.

The festival features the main Big Top Stage, the Green Stage to present experimental music, the Red Stage for dance music fans and the Tune Up Stage to introduce new artists.

Another highly anticipated event, the 10th Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, will be held at Pentaport Park in Songdo, Incheon, from August 7 to 9.

In celebration of the festival's 10th anniversary, a range of renowned musicians will appear on the stage. The German rock group Scorpions; The Prodigy, a British electronica band; SteelHeart, a U.S. rock group that presented a memorable sing-along at the 2013 Pentaport Rock Festival; and, Raven, another popular rock band from the 1980s. Among the Korean musicians there, there will be: YB, a rock group; Crash, a heavy metal group; singer-songwriter Kim Sa-rang; and Seo Taiji, who led the Seo Taiji and Boys in the 1990s and has since created a huge sensation across the country.

There will also be various performances in memory of Shin Hae-chul, a legendary Korean musician who suddenly passed away last year. A range of performances will narrate his musical world and genius, which he showed in various genres throughout his life.

Finally, the sixth Gwangju World Music Festival will take place at the 5.18 Square in front of the Asian Culture Complex in Gwangju from August 29 to 30.

The event will be held to mark the official opening of the Asian Culture Complex in Gwangju in September. Some of the 12 musicians who will appear on stage at the festival include La Dame Blanche, a Cuban group that will show off the passion of Latin America, Italian band Kalascima and JK Kim Dong-uk and Jazz Session Zebra, who will perform a reinterpretation of famous jazz songs.
