The 'Korean Poetry Garden of Poems' is designed by Yun Ji-dong and shows her interpretation of certain 'Korean aspects' in her garden design. Her garden was the first-prize winner at the 2016 Korea Garden Show and is on display at the 2016 International Horticulture Goyang Korea festival.
Among the vivid, colorful flower gardens that attract visitors to the International Horticulture Goyang Korea festival every year, there's always one exhibit that attracts visitors based on its quiet and simple man-made structures. These are Korean gardens.
The 2016 Korea Garden show opened on April 29 and is part of the 2016 International Horticulture Goyang Korea festival. Ten final garden-art pieces were selected through the "K-Garden, Gardens that Convey the Essence of Korean Style" competition, and these gardening masterpieces are on display at the festival, welcoming visitors from around the world.

The 'Like Sejong the Great' garden is designed by Kim Ok-kyung. It won the third prize at the 2016 Korea Garden Show and was inspired by King Sejong the Great (1397-1450).
The first-prize winner at the garden show embodied a "poetry garden that will wake your five senses." Designer Yun Ji-dong's "Korean Poetry Garden" is described as conveying "the Korean people's sentiments and attitudes, which reflect an enjoyment and respect for the delicate and the great in nature."
A garden decorated with Hanok roof tiles, "The Tiled Roof Garden -- In May, Settled on the Scenery of Under the Eaves" by Park Jong-wan, came in second place and Kim Ok-kyung's garden, "Like Sejong the Great," which was inspired by King Sejong the Great (1397-1450) and by the text "The Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People" (훈민정음, 訓民正音) (1444), placed third.
Seven other gardens are also on display. "Inside Beauty; Dancheong -- Structure for Gallery Garden by Traditional Five Different Colours" by Soohyun Suh conveys the beauty of traditional art that decorates wooden buildings and eaves, as seen through windows in Hanok buildings.
Cha Yong-joon's "Landscape Drawn:
Sansoohwa" recreates scenes from Korean nature as depicted in ancient paintings and brings them into his modern garden.
"This garden show is a great opportunity to share Korea's beautiful gardens, which represent true Korean sentiments," said Lee You-mi, head of the Korea National Arboretum, part of the Korea Forest Service.
The 2016 Korea Garden Show will end on May 15, as will the 2016 International Horticulture Goyang Korea festival.
