On June 9, the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria held an award ceremony for its seventh annual Korea-Nigeria Drawing Competition.

The competition was organized by the cultural center in collaboration with the Nigerian Universal Basic Education Board. After coordinating with guidance counselors in February, organizers received submissions from 45 local elementary schools for the preliminary round.

In the final round, judges picked 10 prize winners, awarding one gold, three silver and six bronze medals. The prize-winning drawings depicted images of the Korean Taegeukgi national flag, taekwondo, traditional Hanok buildings and fortresses, Hanbok garments, mountains and K-pop stars.

The gold prize went to 9-year-old Mohammed Musa who drew a picture of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do Province. In his acceptance speech, Mohammed said, "I am very happy to win the gold prize. From now on, I will keep learning about things related to Korea."

The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria has been hosting the Korea-Nigeria Drawing Competition for the past seven years. Starting next year, the center plans to include middle and high school students in the submission pool, as well.

Finally, the center will be publishing the prize-winning artwork from this year's competition in a book to come out later this year.
