“Plums help regain energy in the muscles and the pulse. They treat inflammation and stop coughing and diarrhea, and quench the thirst.”

So said the "Dongui Bogam" (동의 보감, 東醫寶鑑), the most well-known medical book from Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), about plums, or maesil in Korean.

People make a plum extract, a maesil-cheong, to use as a folk remedy due to its medicinal effects. They also make alcoholic beverages with it.

Plums contain a lot of organic acids, such as malic acid, citric acid, succinic acid and tartaric acid. Maesil cha or plum tea is known for quenching the thirst, helping exhaustion and helping the digestion.
