Big Bang, the megaband of the K-pop universe, sits down for an interview with CNN Talk Asia on Sept. 8 to talk about their experiences in the Korean music industry.
On Sept. 8, pop sensation Big Bang guest starred on CNN Talk Asia, an interview show produced for CNN International.
The band's five members -- G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri -- sat down with CNN's Seoul correspondent Paula Hancocks and talked about their 10-year ascent to the pinnacle of K-pop stardom, and shared their thoughts on what the future holds for them as a group.
When asked about what makes them different, the band emphasized their versatility. G-Dragon, the group's leader, said, "Our performances showcase a spectrum of elements from beginning to end. We have surprise entries for the openings, fast tempo songs in between, and we even throw in some comical numbers. We sing emotional songs, as well. Basically, we think a lot about the flow of our performances and we want the audience to feel as if they're a part of it, with us."
As to the secret to Big Bang's immense popularity, T.O.P said, "Because all of us have such distinct personalities, the energy we bring as a team is amplified and is felt more strongly on stage. I think that's what our fans love about Big Bang."
The interview also turned to a discussion about Big Bang's future. "We've been together for the past 10 years, and so, naturally, we're always sharing our thoughts on the direction in which we want to be headed over the next 10 years," said Taeyang. "We as a group want to expand our influence beyond music. To become a group that can inspire others; that is our next step."
The members also talked about the importance of experimenting with new sounds and becoming a band that makes contributions to the Korean music scene. They expressed their desire to share good, influential music with their fans for many more years to come.
CNN Talk Asia explores the personalities behind the newsmakers in the field of arts, politics, sports and business. Previous Korean guests on the show include figure skating champion Kim Yuna, soccer player Park Ji-sung and hip hop group Epik High.
