Two collaborations between Korean pianists and German orchestras will help you enjoy July's summer nights.
Pianist Kim Sunwook and the Dresden Philharmonic and pianist An Kayoung and the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie will perform on July 7 at the Daegu Concert House in Daegu and at the Mapo Art Center in Seoul, respectively.
The Dresden Philharmonic, founded in 1870, is one of the oldest German orchestras. It's known for its contributions to popularizing classical music, which used to be enjoyed exclusively by the upper classes.
Pianist Kim Sunwook, who plays with the orchestra, is the 2016 winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition. He was the youngest winner of the competition, which has been held since 1963. He was also the first Asian musician to win the competition. He's going to perform Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15, by Brahms, which he played in the final round of the competition.
Pianist An Kayoung, together with the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, is staging some of Mozart’s famous pieces from July 7 to 9 in Seoul and Incheon. (BravoComm)
Pianist An Kayoung and the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie’s performance continues at the Incheon Culture and Arts Center on July 8 and at the Seoul Arts Center on July 9.
They will present Mozart’s representative pieces, including Piano Concerto No. 9 in E Flat Major “Jeunehomme,” K.271.
The Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, founded in 1990 in Augsburg, is known for its progressive and aggressive style.
