Pop sensation Super Junior is now the first Korean group to enter Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales chart. The group’s new single "Lo Siento" is the title track off the repackage of its eighth album "Replay," released on April 12.
Up until now, there have been several Korean singers or groups that have made it onto the Billboard Chart Hot 100, such as Wonder Girls, PSY, BTS, EXO, Jay Park, Girls Generation and Big Bang. This is the first time for a Korean pop group to enter Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales chart.
According to Billboard on April 25, "Lo Siento" debuted at No. 13 on its Latin Digital Song Sales chart in the third week of April. The chart, which mostly comprises of songs sung in Spanish, compiles and ranks music on a weekly basis by the number of downloads from a certain range of online music stores.
Billboard's article about the debut is titled “Super Junior has hit a new milestone on the Billboard charts.” Billboard said that the new single includes Korean, Spanish and English and has hit both the Latin music chart and the World music chart. Billboard said that, “If songs that reflect the taste of both Latin and Korean music fans achieve good grades on the charts, the possibility of collaboration between Korea and Latin [music] will more likely increase.”
Super Junior finished its world tour in Latin America, with concerts in Buenos Aires on April 20, in Lima on April 22, in Santiago on April 24 and in Mexico City on April 27.
CNN Chile said on its 9 p.m. News on April 25 that the Super Show 7 concert, which was held at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, was "the biggest musical success of the K-pop industry" in Chile. Mexico’s major newspaper Reforma also interviewed Super Junior members, showing the growing popularity of the pop group on the local music scene.
