The KCON concert, one of the world’s biggest K-pop festivals, rocked the greater New York City area on June 23 and 24, sending more than 53,000 fans into ecstasy.
At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, KCON 2018 NY entertained fans from all around the world with convention programs and K-pop performances.
Concert-goers had a chance to learn some popular Korean dance moves, as well as how to emulate the makeup seen on some famous Korean celebrities, and how to cook some delicious Korean dishes. KCON’s sold-out concerts, which took place at the 12,000-seat arena, had the fans cheering heartily, with a lineup of some of the nation’s most popular K-pop groups, such as Red Velvet, Super Junior, Stray Kids, EXID, Golden Child and Wanna One.
Star Live Talk, a newly-established part of the KCON festival, allows fans to meet and talk with the pop group Stray Kids, in New Jersey on June 23.
This year’s festival got more global with the participation of some household-names, too.
Billboard magazine live-streamed the events on its official YouTube channel and Facebook profile, garnering more than 350,000 views in total. Apple Music offered a KCON playlist that featured songs of the singers who were performing there.
So far, the KCON festival has been held 18 times since 2012, starting in Irvine, California, and then elsewhere across North America, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The number of attendees so far has topped 687,000. Following the New Jersey concerts, a KCON festival will kick off in Los Angeles in August.
