We are at Injeongjeon, the main hall at Changdeokgung Palace, where a modern day reenactment of the Gwageo Siheom, or the national state examinations of Goryeo and Joseon times, is taking place on Oct. 13.

Back in the day, the royal courts conducted these exams to ensure that only the most qualified, best-prepared men ruled the country.
