An exhibition of Buddhist art from Myanmar will make its debut in Korea on Nov. 19 to mark the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-ROK (Republic of Korea) Commemorative Summit and the inaugural Korea-Mekong Summit both in Busan.

Busan Museum on Nov. 8 announced that it will host "Buddhist Art of Myanmar" through Jan. 12.

Displaying 110 works loaned by four Myanmar national museums in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw including Bagan Archaeological Museum and Sri Ksetra Archaeological Museum and Myanmarese artifacts from the National Museum of Korea's collection, the exhibition comprises four themes to easily raise public understanding of Myanmar's history and culture.

The first theme introduces the original forms of Buddhist culture and the second the aspects of Buddhist art. The last two themes focus on the advancement and transformation of Buddhist culture.

Among the artworks to be displayed include remains from Myanmar's ancient city-state of Sri Ksetra showing early Buddhist culture in Myanmar, as well as sculptures depicting the eight main events of Buddha's life such as his birth and him shaving his head.

Busan Museum said, "This exhibition will provide a good opportunity to see at one venue Myanmar's history, culture and traditional Buddhist art, which have not been properly introduced."
