The nationwide event "Cheer up Korea" will run from Aug. 1 to October in ten regions, offering performing arts at key tourist attractions.
The event promotes travel content that combines tourism and the performing arts. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and the Korea Performing Arts and Tourism Association.
To begin on Aug. 1 on Namiseom Island and in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-to Province, an estimated 300 performances will be held nationwide at leading transportation and tourist sites in cities such as Seoul, Busan, Daegu and Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province.
About 20 performances including the musicals "Nanta" and "Jump" will be shown, featuring shows displaying the distinct characteristics of each hosting region and the nation's abundance of nonverbal theatrical works.
To prevent the spread of the pandemic, the number of visitors at each event will be limited to no more than 100.
Social media platforms will also stream the performances online for the benefit of those abroad who cannot visit Korea due to COVID-19.
