The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) on Aug. 19 released an online video showing 24 hours at Seonjeongneung, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Seoul housing the tombs of two kings and one queen from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

The center said the video's purpose is to provide solace and comfort to a pandemic-weary public.

Located in Seoul's Gangnam-gu District, Seonjeongneung comprises the royal tombs of Seolleung, where King Seongjong (1457-94), the ninth Joseon monarch, and his wife, Queen Jeonghyeon (1462-1530), were buried, and Jeongneung, the burial place of King Jungjong (1488-1544), the dynasty's 11th ruler and Seongjong's son. The reigns of the two kings saw an era of peace and prosperity.

The tombs have significant value not just as cultural heritage but also as a public leisure spot thanks to a trail along the green forest.

The video summarizes views over a 24-hour period of Seonjeongneung and Seoul in about eight minutes.

The clip shows Seonjeongneung quietly in its place as cars pass by amid a flamboyant night view of the city. The aerial view likens the tomb to a quiet island in a busy metropolis.

The video can be seen on the center's website (http://royal.cha.go.kr) and the official YouTube channel of K-Heritage TV (https://www.youtube.com/user/koreanheritage), which was jointly formed by the CHA and the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation.
